How Far Should a Hearing Aid Go In?

A hearing aid should feel secure and comfortable, not forced. The right position depends on the device style, your ear anatomy, and whether you use a dome, custom mold, or an invisible device.

For receiver-in-canal devices, the dome usually sits comfortably in the ear canal while the hearing aid rests behind the ear. An in-the-ear device should sit flush enough to feel stable without creating pain or pressure.

If you hear whistling, notice soreness, feel the device working loose, or need to push it in repeatedly, do not keep forcing it. A dome, receiver length, mold, wax filter, or fit may need attention.
